Rules for the preparation of recyclables

Unsorted garbage cannot be recycled, it can only be thrown into a landfill.

It is very important to properly prepare the garbage before sending it to the collecting points so that it can turn into valuable recyclables.

Recycling is not a profitable business at all. Often, recycling companies operate at zero, or with micro-profit, or even at a loss. Under such conditions, it is economically impossible for recycling organizations to carry out additional sorting or washing of incoming waste.

Improperly prepared raw materials can only be sent to a landfill. Imagine how much resources will be spent to first bring a container with waste to a sorting centre, find improperly sorted waste, and only then send it to a landfill. It will take a lot of effort and time, a lot of gasoline.

Improperly prepared waste in a container not only does not help but also harms the entire recycling system.

Plastic

The main types of plastic are accepted in many places and are well processed, but only with proper but simple preparation.

Sort by type

There are many types of plastic and each is recycled in different ways.

Remove the caps and rings from the bottles. If the labels are easily removable, it is advisable to remove them. It is not allowed to fill bottles with other plastic (plastic bags, etc.).

It is also important to separate the bags and the tape by type.

Different types of plastics and how to differ them.

Wash or rinse off

Be sure to rinse off any leftover food and fat.

Contaminated plastic is not only impossible to recycle, it also increases the cost of pre-sorting and ultimately goes to landfill anyway.

Dry and compress.

Less weight and volume — less resources will be spent on transportation, storage and processing, and less environmental pollution.

Batteries

Do not store batteries in metal containers. Use tightly sealed plastic boxes, glass jars, or special containers for storing batteries.

Leaked and oxidized batteries are not recycled, but are sometimes accepted for safe disposal. Specify whether a particular item accepts such items and carefully pack them separately from the rest (for example, in a tight package).

It is important not to damage the batteries during storage and transportation.

Glass

Broken glass is not accepted at all points, it is better to store and hand over the whole.

Rinse it off

Bottles of beer, wine, soda, etc. will be enough to rinse slightly with ordinary water.

It is advisable to remove greasy and other heavy impurities.

Remove the excess

It is necessary to remove the caps of the dispensers, and the rings on the bottleneck.
Labels can usually be left.

Broken glass

Put it in some kind of container (for example, in another glass jar).

Ideally, sort by colour.

Metal

Wash or rinse off leftovers from food and drinks, then dry from moisture and flatten if possible.
It is also advisable to remove labels from cans.

Sort for aluminium and everything else.

Paper

The waste paper should be sorted into corrugated cardboard and everything else.

The paper for recycling should be dry and free of greasy impurities.

It is better to fold the sorted stacks as tightly as possible and tie them with a rope if possible.

It is necessary to separate the metal springs (from old calendars, and notebooks), as well as remove the tape and paper clips.
And for the envelopes transparent plastic pieces should be cut out.

About the project

RecycleLoc is a non—profit eco-social project.

Here you will find recycling collection points by category, on the map, as well as a list, and all related information for the preparation of raw materials for processing.

We are looking for volunteers to translate the site into Georgian and other languages!
